KENTE CLOTH

Kente,  was developed in the 17th Century A.D. by the Ashanti people, it has it roots in a long tradition of weaving in Africa dating back to about 3000 B.C.
Kente is a source of common identity and pride so it is preserved for very important and special occassions such as marriage ceremonies. Chiefs also wear cloth to celebrate their festivals.
Even though it is originated from both the Ashanti and the Volta Region, it is not only worn by them  but it is recognised as a Ghanaian Traditional cloth worn by any tribe.
This is an example of a kente cloth called Fatia fata Nkrumah. This is recognised as one of the most beautiful and intricate design in the Kente world. This type is specially made and worn by royals.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE ADINKRA CLOTH

Adinkra Cloth is one of the prestigious royal craft produced in the village called Asokwo around Kumasi in Ghana. According to the Ashanti legend it was introduced in 1818 following the capture of  a rival monarch by the name Adinkra, who wore the cloth to express his sorrow. Kumasi Adinkra involve the printing of designs in a black dye made from the bark of certain tress which uses stamps carved from section of a calabash. Many Adinkra stamp designs are named by reference to proverbs, while others have naturalistic references.

This is an example of an Adinkra cloth called Akyekyedeaste. This cloth is worn for any social gathering.

IS CITIZEN JOURNALISM A THREAT OR A CHALLENGE TO PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISM.

LADY AGYAPONG
2129/D/JNL/227

Citizen journalism is the concept of members of the public, playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analysis and disseminating news and information.
Citizen journalism givs opportunties to people without professional journalism training to be able to use tools of modern technology such as, the internet to creat agrument or fact check media on their own or in collabration with others.
With all the opportunities citizen journalist are given, they do not meet the standards of professional journalist.
As Grubisich  found out in 2005, citizen journalist lack in quality and in content.
I agree to the fact that citizen journalism is a threat to professional journalism due to the speed with which news is reported  and delivered.
